About me
“Every child deserves the chance to shine” is not just a tagline, it’s the belief at the heart of everything I do.
Hi, I’m Gemma, a qualified science teacher with over 10 years of experience teaching Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at KS3 and KS4 (11-16) in local secondary schools. I now offer 1:1 and small group tutoring from my home and online, creating a safe, structured, and supportive space where students can truly thrive, both academically and personally.
I started tutoring because I wanted to return to the core of great teaching, knowing each child as an individual, making learning meaningful, and inspiring curiosity. Inside the classroom, increasing pressures and unnecessary admin often pull teachers focus away from the learners themselves. It gets harder for teachers to teach and learners to learn. However, I believe that no child should be left behind in their education, with the right support, they can catch up, grow in confidence, and succeed.
My lessons are carefully adapted to meet each student’s needs. I break learning down into manageable steps, provide continuous, constructive feedback, and build a strong foundation for lasting progress. I have extensive experience making learning accessible for SEND, SEMH, and EAL needs, ensuring that every young person can engage, connect, and thrive in their own way. I also encourage lots of questioning, because when students feel safe to be curious, they make deeper connections with the world around them and grow into independent thinkers.
I’m now in my fourth year as an examiner for a major exam board, giving me a clear understanding of how students can improve their exam technique, avoid common pitfalls, and gain confidence in how they apply their knowledge.
For me, success isn’t just about grades, it’s about engagement, enjoyment, and growth. I want every child I work with to feel empowered, valued, and excited to learn.
